The girl, a resident of Achabal area of Anantnag, set herself on fire after sprinkling kerosene yesterday, police said today.
She was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to the burns there.
The police have registered a case and cause behind the extreme step was being ascertained.
In another incident, a girl jumped into the Jehlum river from the footbridge near her house in Sonwar area of the city on Friday, a police spokesman said.
Efforts were on to retrieve the body from the river, the spokesman said.
