Goa: 102 corruption cases pending with ACB and vigilance dept

The Goa government today told the state Legislative Assembly that 102 cases of graft and corruption, involving government officials and political leaders, are pending with the authorities in the state.
The information was furnished in a written reply by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to a question asked by BJP MLA Rajesh Patnekar.
As many as 46 cases are pending with the Anti-Corruption Branch, while 56 cases are with the General Vigilance Section.
One of these cases is filed against Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar (Congress) and his wife for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income, and is being investigated by the ACB.

A maximum number of cases are against police officials.
Annexure to Parrikar's reply also lists a 2012 case against deputy superintendent of police Shamba Sawant for allegedly illegally grabbing a piece of land near Panaji.

Another case, filed last year, is against officials of the Cuncolim Municipal Council for a misappropriation of Rs 3.79 crore.
Former PWD minister Churchill Alemao and some officers are facing a case for criminal misconduct in procuring water storage tanks and causing a loss to the state exchequer.
Former state minister Dayanand Mandrekar is being investigated for irregularities in the expenditure incurred on setting up an Information Technology park at Succoro.

The ACB is also investigating a case against former Additional Collector of North Goa, Sabaji Shetye, for allegedly taking a bribe.
