Congress legislator and Leader of Opposition Pratapsingh Rane moved the motion during the last day of the Assembly session today, which was supported by other legislators including BJP's Vishnu Wagh.
"Inhuman treatment was given to Sarabjit Singh in Pakistani jail. He was not a terrorist, he had just crossed into the Pakistan territory and suffered for 22 years in jail," Rane said, tabling the motion.
He demanded that Pakistan should probe the attack and the culprits should not be spared.
Supporting the motion, BJP's Vishnu Wagh accused the central government of not doing enough to secure safe release of Sarabjit Singh from Pakistani custody.
He alleged that in India, culprits involved in heinous crimes were protected and taken care of by spending crore of rupees till they were proved guilty.
Speaking on the motion, Assembly Speaker Rajendra Arlekar said the central authorities should be more sensitive towards such issues.
