Goa government is yet to assess the tax payable by Sunburn Electronic music festival (EDM) of last two years.
State Commercial Taxes department in a reply to RTI application filed by NCP's Goa Spokesperson Trojano D'Mello, has said that tax for year 2012-13 and 2013-14 "has not been assessed".
In the reply, a copy of which is available with PTI, the total tax paid by the organisers of the festival for 2012 and 2013 was not disclosed.
"The information (about the tax paid) cannot be disclosed in terms of section 8 (d) of the RTI act, read with section 9 (B) of the Goa Entertainment Tax Act," read the reply furnished by Additional Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, Dipak Bandekar.
D'Mello who showed copies of the RTI replies during a press conference today, demanded from the government to come open on the tax evasion by the Sunburn organisers and why such a protection is provided to them.
Sunburn EDM is held in Goa annually at Vagatore beach from December 27-30. Last December marked the third edition of the music extravaganza.
Earlier, Congress had approached the Goa Bench of Bombay High Court seeking to cancel permission for Sunburn festival, claiming that organisers did not pay the tax.
The court had however, refused to cancel permission, postponing the case to further date.
