The Goa Higher Secondary Teachers' Association have decided to demand that they be given the status of Junior College in order to help them achieve better pay scales and other promotional avenues.
The decision was taken yesterday at a meeting of the Higher Secondary Teachers' Association here.
Association President Beena Naik in a statement said that she would take up the issue with the Seventh Pay Commission.
"The issue required to be taken up with the Commission firstly because the association felt the need to do so in view of the fact that the Goa does not have its own Commission.
"It is advisable to acquaint the Commission with the pay-scales and other related issues of school teachers in Goa," Naik said.
While in other states the higher secondary section is called either a junior college or a pre-university college, in Goa it is called the Higher Secondary section and is managed by the Goa Board of secondary and Higher Secondary education.
