"Keeping in line with the government's policy to encourage industry-academia partnership, Pawan Goenka has been reappointed as the Chairman of IIT Madras," an official said.
Goenka is himself an IITian having studied at IIT-Kanpur, the official added.
Earlier, the Prakash Javadekar-led Human Resource Development Ministry had forwarded Goenka's name for reappointment to President Pranab Mukherjee who is the Visitor to over 100 central institutes of higher learning including the IITs.
Following Mukherjee's assent, Goenka has been reappointed as the chairman of IIM Madras, officials said.
