At the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold for delivery in February was trading higher by Rs 74, or 0.26 per cent, to Rs 28,328 per 10 grams, in a business turnover of 509 lots.
Similarly, the yellow metal for delivery in far-month April traded higher by Rs 71, or 0.25 per cent, to Rs 28,330 per 10 grams in 12 lots.
Analysts said building up of positions by speculators led to a jump in gold prices.
