Along with a Nyishi (tribal) jacket and a 'bopia'( headgear), the governor presented him a cheque of Rs 10 lakh at a function organised in the Raj Bhawan here yesterday.
Lapung won a gold in weightlifting in the men's 69kg category in the ongoing SAG in Guwahati on February 7.
"I am confident that you will win a medal in the Olympics for the country and it will be a proud moment for the entire people of the state," Rajkhowa told him.
"Sports talent is very high in the state. With proper training, guidance, support and direction, the state can produce large numbers of sportspersons of national and international standards," he said.
The Governor also directed the sports department to take immediate action to strengthen the State Sports Authority.
Arunachal Pradesh is under President's Rule.
