Gold worth Rs 20 lakh stolen from two goldsmiths

Gold worth Rs 30 lakh was stolen from two goldsmiths by a four-member gang, who attacked and injured them while they were getting down from their car near their house here today, police said.
An owner of gold ornament manufacturing unit was bringing gold from Chennai along with two workers to make jewelleries and to supply to different jewellers back there, they said.
As their car stopped near the house here, the gang which was following them on two motorcycles, waylaid them and demanded that the workers hand over the bag containing 1.5 kg of gold.
Since the workers refused, the gang attacked them with sickles, snatched the bag and escaped, police said.

The workers have been hospitalised, police said, adding a hunt was on to nab the gang.
