Ten days after the violence at Bhangor and allegation of forcible land acquisition, West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi today said all concerned including the government and the people should sit together to find out a solution.
"The public, the leaders, government and the official machineries should sit together and find out a formula to ensure peace", he told reporters.
"The people should be taken into confidence," he said.
To a question, Tripathi said every dispute could be solved on the table.
One person was killed and another injured in Bhangor area of South 24 Parganas district after clashes broke out between the police and villagers against construction of a Power Grid sub-station in the area.
The police had refuted allegations of firing and said the firing took place between two groups of protesters.
During the day, a delegation of state Congress led by WBPCC president and CLP leader Abdul Mannan met the Governor and sought his intervention into the problems at Bhangor.
"We requested the Governor to arrange a dialogue beetween the government and the people of Bhangor if possible", the WBPCC chief told reporters after meeting Tripathi.
"The Governor wanted to know about the views of the farmers at Bhangor. We told him that the farmers are not against development.
"But the Mamata Banerjee government had announced that no land would be acquired forcibly but the land mafias were taking away land using revolver. The farmers were helpless and angry", he said.
TMC Secretary-General and minister Partha Chatterjee on the other hand, said, "Not an inch of land will be acquired forcibly (by the government).
"Our government had not acquired land. The outsiders are inciting the people", he said.
