A case was registered yesterday against Devidas Jumanake, the cook attached to the hostel of the Ashram Shala or boarding school situated in Kakad Dathi village, after one of the parents approached local police.
According to a police official, Jumanake had allegedly locked around 21 inmates of the hostel in a room and beat them up with a leather belt and stick as he was miffed with them for not 'admitting' their involvement in some issue.
Meanwhile, some parents alleged the headmaster of the facility didn't pay heed to their complaint, after the their wards narrated the ordeal to them.
When contacted, Headmaster A G Chavan has expressed concern over the incident and said he would take up the matter with the higher authorities for action against the cook.
The complaint against Jumanake was lodged by one J.S. Khandare.
Meanwhile, Hostel Superintendent Arvind Sarode has conceded that similar complaints had been received from the students and parents against Jumanake in the past and he had warned him of stringent action.
