Govt developing digital forensics facilities to examine cyber

The Union government is procuring latest equipment to develop digital forensics facilities at the Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSL) in the country.
The director-cum-chief forensic scientist of the Directorate of Forensic Science Services, A K Ganjoo, today said, "The digital forensics facilities at CFSLs will be used for examination of hi-tech cyber crime cases and the government has spent Rs 5 crore to procurement latest instruments."
There are six CFSLs in the country located at Chandigarh, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Bhopal and Pune.
He emphasised on reducing case pendency to a considerable level particularly in sexual assault, DNA, document and cyber crime and laid stress on developing new techniques in the thrust area of forensic science to help law enforcement agencies nab criminals in minimum time span.
He also advised CFSL scientists to provide state-of-the- art services to the police.
A two-day training course on 'best practices on handling, labeling, packaging and forwarding of physical clue material' for Chandigarh Police officers started here.
The course has been organised by the Central Forensic Science Laboratory here.
About 40 officers of Chandigarh Police participated in the course, an official said.
