The administration is keeping close watch and has geared up various departments to meet any exigency in the context of the current squally weather in Puducherry and Karaikal, Puducherry Chief Minister N.Rangasamy today said.
"As of now Puducherry does not face any serious situation. But we do not leave anything to chance and are keeping close watch on the situation," Rangasamy told reporters after visiting some rain-hit interior villages here.
The PWD, Health, Local Administration and Electricity departments have been geared up to meet any exigency, he said.
The Agriculture Department has been directed to make an assessment of the damage to the tapioca, betel leaf farms and also plantain fields.
"Once the report is available, the government would decide the quantum of relief to the farmers," the Chief Minister said.
He said Karaikal was also experiencing sharp showers.
District Collectors of Puducherry and Karaikal had been asked to take preventive measures so that there would be no room for any havoc anywhere, he added.
Health authorities were also being instructed to ensure that there was no water borne disease anywhere.
On complaints from the Congress party that there was no adequate manpower to collect garbage from across the town and suburban limits, he said the contractor would be asked to look into the matter and deploy adequate conservancy staff and also bigger vehicles to clear the garbage.
Speaker V Sabapathy, Minister for Higher Education P R Siva and officials held discussions with the Chief Minister earlier.
