A junior assistant attached to the District Coordinator for Hospital Services (DCHS) Office was today arrested here, for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000, Anti-Corruption Bureau officials said.
DCHS comes under the Andhra Pradesh government.
The accused Taslem Beg had demanded Rs 50,000 as bribe for passing a sanitary bill from a contractor. The contractor agreed to pay the amount in a phased manner and later approached the anti-corruption watchdog, ACB Deputy Superintendent of Police V Gopalakrishna said.
Following a complaint, a trap was laid and Beg was caught red-handed while accepting the first instalment of Rs 10,000 as bribe, at his office, Gopalakrishna added.
A case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered and investigations are underway, the officer said.
