"Parliament has passed only 14 private bills so far. Of which, five bills were passed in Rajya Sabha and nine bills in the Lok Sabha. ...We should revisit the approach to private bills." CPI-M leader P Rajeeve said in the Rajya Sabha while moving a bill on Endosulfan issue.
The government should take the spirit of each bill irrespective of which party member has moved it, he said.
The last bill passed in the Upper House was on amendment to the Indian Penal Code Act way back in 1969 while in the Lok Sabha it was in 1970, he added.
The minister told the member that he should withdraw the bill as is generally the case with regard to private member bills.
