A special court today fixed October 16 for hearing arguments on framing of charges in a corruption case in which former Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss and four others were accused of showing favours to a private medical college in Uttar Pradesh in granting renewal for admissions in MBBS course in 2008-09.
The court had on August 26 granted bail to the accused -- Ramadoss, then Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, K V S Rao, Chairman of Rohilkhand Medical College in Bareilly in UP, Keshav Kumar Aggarwal, doctors of Safdarjung Hospital Vindu Amitabh and Sanjeev Kumar Rasania.
"Put up on October 16, 2014 for arguments on charge," Special CBI Judge Madhu Jain said.
The corruption case was transferred from Lucknow to Delhi by the Supreme Court which had allowed the plea of PMK leader Ramadoss seeking shifting of the trial to Patiala House Court here where he has been chargesheeted in a similar case by CBI.
He and the other five accused were chargesheeted in a special CBI court in Lucknow in the case for allegedly showing favours to Rohilkhand Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) in grant of renewal for admissions in MBBS course in 2008-09.
Ramadoss, along with others, was also chargesheeted in a similar case here relating to allegedly abusing his official position in allowing Indore-based Index Medical College and Research Centre (IMCHRC) to go ahead with admissions without having sufficient faculty and clinical material.
The charge sheet in the Lucknow court was filed on February 25 last year while the charge sheet in Delhi court was filed on April 27, 2012. Ramadoss was the Union Health Minister from May 2004 till April 2009 in UPA-1 government.
In the IMCHRC case, besides Ramadoss, CBI has filed charge sheet against K V S Rao, Sudershan Kumar, Section Officer in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Dr J S Dhupia and Dr Dipendra Kumar Gupta of Safdarjung Hospital.
The charge sheet also named Suresh Singh Bhadoria, Chairman of IMCHRC, Dr S K Tongia, ex-Dean of the college, Dr K K Saxena, Medical Director of the college, Nitin Gothwal and Dr Pawan Bhambani as accused. All the 10 accused are now on bail.
