Grand celebrations mark IIM-Indore's 14th convocation

The annual convocation ceremony of IIM-Indore came to an end today as the 14th batch was conferred with management degrees at the campus premises.
First time around 550 certificates were given away to students by retired Chief Justice of India Sarosh Homi Kapadia, who was the chief guest.
All the students also walked through the institute premises in a colourful convocation procession to reach the venue, a tradition followed every year.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Kapadia said India was a knowledge economy and consequently, in today's world of globalisation, convergence was key.
"Today, nature of litigation has changed. Regulatory activism has taken over. Regulatory orders come to SC by way (of) First Appeal. Hence, SC is required to consider not only the effect of an enactment on the FRs, it has now to consider economic substance of commercial transactions and its effect on the economy of the country. Hence, in the globalised world we need to know convergence of various disciplines...

"Gone are the days when knowledge of angles and bridge construction would get the student of engineering through. Today, the engineering student must understand the economic impact of a project, environment issues, concerns of indigenous people etc," he said.

In his address, chairman IIM-I K V Kamath said an exciting future awaited the graduating class in the country which is witnessing rapid growth. While congratulating the graduates he said throughout their career they will have to confront various challenges, but they should never abandon their integrity and ethics.
IIM-I director N Ravichandran emphasised the significance of managing oneself in personal and professional lives. He advised the students to perform their duties with the highest level of integrity and passion and prove they are responsible citizens.

Gold medals for academic excellence were presented to Arshdeep Sharma, Sakshi Makkar and Ankita Shrivastava among other awards in the event.
