Guard tries to kill self after 'insult' by officer

A night guard in an ICDS office in Nadia district today attempted to commit suicide by setting himself on fire inside the office allegedly after he was 'insulted' by an officer, police said.
The guard, who also does computer work for the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) at Krishnaganj, poured kerosene on himself and tried to set himself afire with a lighter.
However, other staff members snatched the lighter from him on time, police said.
The guard told the police that he was 'insulted' by the CDPO for some mistakes in his computer work.
CDPO Pragati Dey, however, said she was unaware of the reason of his attempt to commit suicide.

"I shall lodge a general diary with the police as he attempted to commit suicide inside the office," she said.
