According to police, the deceased were in age group between 17 years and 22 years.
The accident occurred when the students were returning to Zalod after attending a cultural programme in Bardoli town near Surat, said Damavav police station Sub-Inspector P L Vaghela.
"The speeding jeep crashed into a tree along roadside after the driver lost control over the vehicle this morning. While five girls died on the spot, another one died shortly after being admitted to SSG Hospital in Vadodara," he said.
A case of rash driving has been registered against the driver who was seriously injured in the incident along with five passengers, police said, adding that the injured were undergoing treatment at Godhra Civil Hospital.
