Gupta, who retired from the service in June 2009, is a former Uttarakhand cadre IAS officer and has served both in the state as well as in the central government in various capacity.
Kumar, who retired as CRPF chief in September 2012, is currently serving as a senior adviser on Naxal affairs in the Home Ministry. A Tamil Nadu cadre IPS officer, he is credited for eliminating forest brigand Veerapan in 2004.
A formal order of appointment for the two advisers is expected shortly.
Jharkhand has been placed under President's rule after Chief Minister Arjun Munda resigned when his government was reduced to a minority following withdrawal of support by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.
