Refusing to join the uproar over BJP chief Dilip Ghosh's comments on reputed economist Amartya Sen, West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi today said he would not say anything on the "controversial" issue.
"It is a controversial issue. I should not say anything on this," Tripathi told reporters on the sidelines of 7th National Science Film Festival & Competition - 2017 here.
Tripathi, who inaugurated the festival today, was asked by the media to comment on Ghosh's remarks questioning the economist's contribution to the state and India, at a programme last week.
"No political question here please," the Governor also said on the sidelines of the programme.
Facing severe criticism for his commments on Saturday, an unfazed Ghosh stuck to his comments yesterday and told reporters "I stick to whatever I have said. I have no regrets. What is his (Sen's) contribution towards the Indian society and economy? What has he done for the development of our country."
On Saturday, the BJP leader had launched a diatribe against the Nobel laureate saying, "A fellow Bengali among us has won the Nobel Prize and we are proud...But, what has he done for the state? What has he given to the nation? No one in Bengal understands him.
