State Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said this at the meeting of the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) here today, chaired by Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, which approved the decision.
Khattar said his government had reconsidered the earlier proposal of having a 60-m buffer zone, and 'Mangar Bani' along with the buffer zone will be declared as a 'no construction zone'.
Environmentalists have been seeking protection of the 'Mangar Bani' forest which is situated in the Aravallis and is often referred to as the "last known virgin forest" in this area.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Naidu said the state government has decided to demarcate a 500-m buffer zone around the 'Mangar Bani' forest area which the NCRPB has approved.
