A 30-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his shop here, after recording a selfie video in which he accused five moneylenders for harassing him over loan repayment, police said today.
The deceased, Shahid Hussain, was a carpenter, police said adding that the incident took place last evening.
Inspector M Ravinder Reddy of Shahinayathgunj police station said a suicide note, purportedly written by Hussain, was recovered from the shop, which says that he had taken loans to the tune of Rs 9 lakh from five persons.
"As per the note written in English, the moneylenders had been harassing him since the past several days, demanding their money back. It also says that they had threatened him of dire consequences and that he was taking the extreme step as he was tired of the harassment by them," Reddy said.
According to the officer, Hussain also shot a selfie video on his cell phone before ending his life, in which he said that he was committing suicide as the five persons from whom he had borrowed loans were torturing him and that they were not giving him time to return the amount.
"Following a complaint by Hussain's family members, police registered a case under IPC section 306 (abetment of suicide) against five persons and picked up two of them for questioning," the Inspector told PTI.
Further investigation into the case is on.
