'second in command' was today killed in an encounter with a joint police and army team in lower Assam's Kokrajhar district, a police officer said.
The insurgent exchanged fire with the security team at Bongaon forest area under Gossaigaon police station, IGP L R Bishnoi told PTI.
The militant has been identified as National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Songbijit Gossaigaon 'platoon' 'second in command' Phillip Wari alias Pwthwi, Bishnoi said.
Two pistols, two hand grenades, three rounds of ammunition, nine rounds of fired ammunition and two mobiles were recovered from the slain extremist, he said.
Phillip was carrying a cash reward of Rs five lakh on his head and wanted in many cases, the IGP added.
