The organs - kidneys, heart valves and liver - were harvested by doctors at the Sri Abhirami Hospital in the city last evening and the heart valves and liver were sent by ambulance to Madras Medical Mission Hospital and Apollo Hospitals in Chennai from here at around 1.30 AM.
The organs reached the destination by 7.30 AM, Dr P Periyasami, Managing Director of the hospital, said in a statement here.
However, he was declared brain dead last evening.
The relatives expressed willingness to donate organs and the process to harvest them started immediately, he said.
Two kidneys were donated to the patients in Abhirami Hospital while heart valves and liver were given to six needy persons in Chennai hospitals, thereby giving new lease of life to eight persons, Periyasami said.
