In a bid to turn Haryana's hinterlands into tourist hot-spots, the state goverment today started the 'Farm Tourism' scheme, under which registered farm owners can host tourists under holiday packages.
"The state government has started farm tourism to attract people to villages," Haryana Tourism Minister Rambilas Sharma said today.
Holiday packages will be offered to tourists at registered farms near Delhi, he said.
"Besides, the state government is also leading in terms of promoting folk art and craft by organising fairs and festivals," he said.
"To aware people about the history and culture of Haryana, the state government has been focusing on developing ancient cultural heritage, historical and famous pilgrimage sites as tourism spots," he said, adding the government has also given the industry status to the tourism sector.
"Concepts of diverse forms of tourism-- religious, heritage, agriculture, golf, adventure and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events)-- are being promoted by the government," he said.
There is a plan to start adventure activities in Tikkar Taal of Morni (Panchkula), Surajkund in Faridabad and Damdama in Gurgaon, he added.
