Haryana to build academy for skill development of construction

In a boost to construction workers in Haryana, the state government today announced that it would set up an academy for their skill development.
An academy for skill development of construction workers, call centre to quickly redress their grievances, mobile canteens, mobile toilets, mobile Shishu Niketans and mobile classrooms for their children would be set up, Haryana Finance, Labour and Employment Minister Abhimanyu said.
These decisions were taken in the 12th meeting of the Board of Haryana Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare here today.
Abhimanyu, who presided over the meeting, said that the academy would be set up at a cost of Rs 100 crore. It would be on the pattern of the academy for construction workers in Hyderabad.

Apart from these, workers would also be assisted in their skill development through other means like industrial training institute, public private partnership institutions and any other private institutions, he said.
The entire expenditure of skill development of the workers would be borne by the state government, the minister said, adding as they would not be able to work during the training period, their wages would be paid by the Board.

He said that Rs 10 crore would be provided for setting up of Shishu Niketan and Rs 5 crore for mobile toilet.
It was decided to increase the amount under health insurance scheme for these workers from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000, the minister said.

Also the grant of loan for purchase or construction of house was increased from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh for those who have been members for the last five years, Abhimanyu said.
