Haryana government is considering forming its own accreditation council on the lines of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to assess and accredit higher education institutions functioning in the state.
While presiding over a meeting of State Higher Education Council here, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who is also the council's chairman, today directed the concerned officers to explore possibilities for creation of State Assessment and Accreditation Council (SAAC).
Khattar said that formation of SAAC would primarily help in assessing quality of universities and colleges before the mandatory assessment and accreditation by NAAC.
He said that all the Vice-Chancellors should make great efforts to secure best grade from the NAAC.
The chief minister expressed concern that although chairs are instituted to commemorate the memory of prominent personalities, yet no further research is conducted and directed the Vice-Chancellors to ensure research work on such Chairs.
The government had set up a chair named after Mangal Sain in Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, he said, adding that adequate emphasis should be laid on promotion of research activities.
He said that the society would be immensely benefited with such research work.
"Adequate funds as well as infrastructure would be provided for the same. The Vice Chancellors concerned could also explore possibilities as many business houses are ready for the same as a part of corporate social responsibility," he said.
Over complaints of irregularities in recruitment process in institutions in the past, Khattar directed the Vice Chancellors to ensure complete transparency.
"I am closely monitoring the entire system and reports are not so encouraging. Therefore, you must be very fair and impartial in recruitment," he said.
He also sought details of BEd colleges operational in the state without due permission.
He said that mapping of colleges should be carried out to have complete area wise details of educational institutes.
He directed officials that permission for opening new colleges should be given keeping in view the future requirements of the field.
Besides introducing skill development programmes to train talented persons, the chief minister said new courses in sports science discipline should also be introduced in the universities.
