Sunil Patole has left a suicide note in Marathi addressed to his parents and brother stating he took the extreme step due to family issues, said a senior police officer.
He has sought apology from his family and said he did not want to work anymore, he added.
Patole belonged to Nashik district.
The havildar was posted at Territorial Army headquarters on Shershah Road near High Court and he shot himself with his AK-47 rifle around 7PM, he said.
He had been posted here for the last six months and was married with two kids.
The family members have been informed while the body has been preserved for post-mortem at the Lady Hardinge Hospital mortuary.
