A bench of justices P V Hardas and Mridula Bhatkar was hearing a petition filed by 50-year-old Jaya, who urged for hospitalisation to undergo treatment for ulcers in stomach, obesity, depression and other ailments.
The court, while allowing Jaya to undergo treatment for three weeks in St George's hospital, posted her petition for further hearing after a month.
A medical officer, who was summoned by the court to inform on Jaya's condition, was present today. He filed a report stating that she needed hospitalisation for few weeks.
In her petition, Jaya said after undergoing the operation, she was suffering from hypertension, hypothyroid, depression and vertigo.
On June 13, 2008, 'matka' king Bhagat was killed when his car was rammed by a truck on the Alibaug-Pen road.
Police arrested his wife Jaya, son Hitesh, Jaya's alleged lover and gangster Suhas Roge, and three others on charges of murder and criminal conspiracy. They were convicted by a sessions court in July and sent to jail.
According to prosecution, Jaya and Hitesh wanted to take over Bhagat's properties, and his 'matka' gambling business, that ran into hundreds of crores of rupees. Jaya allegedly paid Rs 45 lakh to Roge to get the job done.
