HC closes petition by Blue Cross on camel slaughtering

Madras High Court today closed a petition by Blue Cross of India seeking a direction to authorities to ensure that camels were slaughtered only in a licensed slaughter house and not in public places.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M. Sathyanarayanan disposed of the petition filed by Chennai office of Blue Cross of India, saying it had not placed any specific material on record in the form of photographs to substantiate the plea of such slaughtering by the way side.
"In the absence of any further material, we dispose of this writ petition with a direction to the concerned authorities to ensure to the reliance of the rules and norms for slaughtering. Consequently the miscellaneous petition is closed," the court held.

Earlier, the state government submitted that the allegation of the petitioner that camels were slaughtered on roadside was not correct and if any such infraction was brought to the notice, action in accordance with rules will be taken.
