The Delhi High Court today came to the rescue of students who could not apply for the admission despite clearing the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for MBBS/BDS courses.
Justice V K Jain directed the Faculty of Medical Science (FMS) of Delhi University to extend the time for receving the admissison forms till 6 pm today.
"It (FMS) shall upload a notice on its website by 3.00 pm today intimating that those who have not applied for admission to MBBS/BDS courses can collect the application forms and submit the same, complete in all respects, to the Faculty of Medical Science by 6 pm today," the court said.
The order of the court came on two petitions filed by Ashwani Kumar and Vaishnavi Verma who had appeared in NEET 2013 for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses.
They told the court that since the Bulletin of Information issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education did not contain any requirement of applying separately to the varsity for admission to MBBS/BDS courses, they were not aware of the requirement and consequently, did not apply by June 10, a deadline fixed by FMS of the university.
The court was also told that many students and parents had made representation seeking acceptance of application forms beyond June 10 on various grounds, following which the Faculty of Medical Science, on June 19, had extended the time for submission of application for admission to June 28.
The decision extending the deadline to June 28 was uploaded on the wesbite of the Faculty but not published in any newspaper. The petitioners contended since they were not in Delhi and not in a position to reach here in time, they could not apply to the University on or before June 28.
