The Gujarat High Court today refused to grant temporary bail to 2002 Naroda Patiya riots case convict Babu Bajrangi for a month to perform rituals following the death of his mother.
A division bench of justices K S Jhaveri and K J Thaker rejected the plea for Bajrangi's bail.
Bajrangi's wife Meena Patel had sought his release for performing rituals in Haridwar. His mother Gomtiben Rajabhai Patel died due to prolonged illness on December 5.
At present, Bajrangi is lodged at the Sabarmati Central Jail here.
Earlier, the High Court had given him bail four times so that he, his father and mother could avail of medical treatment.
A special trial court had convicted Bajrangi in the 2002 riots case in which 97 people were killed in the Naroda Patiya area of the city on February 28, 2002.
Bajrangi was sentenced to imprisonment until his death.
