Justice D.Hariparanthanam gave a direction on a petition filed by three Assistant professors of the University who sought a direction to quash the notification, and posted the case for hearing on December 10.
The petitioners submitted as per the UGC regulations, 20 per cent of the posts alone could be filled by direct recruitment. The remaining 75 per cent should be filled by CAS promotion from among the eligible Assistant professors and associate professors. "But the notification issued by the registrar on November 8,does not provide for such promotion under CAS."
The court, in its interim order then, said if any appointment was made,it would be subject to the outcome of the writ petition.
Even as that petition was pending, the registrar had issued again vide the present notification on November 8 and it should be quashed, the petitioners submitted.
