HC directs TN Police not to arrest former minister till Oct 3

The Madras High Court today directed the state police not to arrest former transport minister Senthil Balaji till October 3 in connection with a case registered against him by the Central Crime Branch.
Justice R Suresh Kumar, before whom the anticipatory bail petition filed by Balaji came up, passed interim orders to this effect.
Apprehending arrest based on complaints filed with regard to a job racket against him, he had filed the anticipatory bail plea.
Balaji, who identified himself with the sidelined AIADMK deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran group, was the transport minister till July, 2015.
The Central Crime Branch of Chennai had registered the case against Balaji on a complaint by Ganesh Kumar for allegedly receiving an amount of Rs 95 lakh through his relatives with an assurance of securing jobs to 16 aspirants.

Neither the jobs were given nor was the money returned, the complainant claimed.

In his plea, Balaji submitted that he was one of the 18 MLAs disqualified by the Speaker.
"The present government perceives that I am against the government and seeks to wreck vengeance against me," he said.
Balaji submitted that he was not a minister from July 29, 2015 and the complaint was given after 23 months. Besides, he did not know the complainant.
