The Madras High Court has adjourned a petition, seeking transfer of investigation into the gangrape and death of a 22-year-old woman, after the Christmas vacation.
After ordering issue of notice to the Additional Government Pleader R.Sanjay Gandhi, Justice V Ramasubramanian posted the matter for further hearing after Christmas vacation.
The petition was filed by a woman whose daughter died on December 4 here after she was allegedly gangraped by some persons for eight days.
The woman, a labourer, submitted that her daughter went missing on November 24. Police informed that her daughter was at Kallakurichi and she was rescued and brought home on December 3. Her daughter was allegedly raped by a gang and had sustained grievous injuries and she died on December 4 in the Government Stanley Hospital.
The SI had registered a case under IPC 306 (abetment of suicide) against the accused.
On December 11, an women's organization sent a representation to higher police officials to transfer the investigation to CB-CID, the petitioner said. Only one accused by name Francis was arrested and police did not oppose the bail petition when it has came up before the Sessions Court, she alleged.
She further alleged that police were trying to shield the accused and sought a direction to transfer the probe to CB-CID.
