The Orissa High Court today quashed a petition filed by senior BJD leader Kishore Mohanty challenging the election of Congress' Naba Das from Jharsuguda Assembly constituency.
Mohanty, a former Assembly Speaker, had lost to Das by a margin of 1,563 votes in the April 2014 elections.
Alleging that the election process, including counting of votes, in his segment were not done properly, the BJD leader had approached the High Court with a petition seeking to declare election of Das as null and void.
Justice S K Mishra quashed Mohanty's petition observing that no trial was necessary in this case as it lacked evidence.
