The Allahabad High Court today sought counter affidavits from Uttar Pradesh government and the state Public Service Commission on a petition alleging that seats reserved for heirs and dependents of freedom fighters were being filled up by candidates belonging to other categories.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Dilip Gupta passed the order on the petition of 'Pratiyogi Chhatra Kalyan Manch', a group formed by students appearing in various competitive examinations.
They have alleged that despite a two per cent quota being in place for heirs/dependents of freedom fighters in exams conducted by the UPPSC, the same were being filled up by candidates who did not belong to the category.
It was further prayed by the petitioners that the respondents be directed to calculate the total number of seats that were to be reserved for freedom fighters' heirs between 2008 and 2013 and thereafter the same be filled by those falling in the category.
