Gandhi was attacked by a four member gang while he was on a morning walk at Nagercoil, in Kanyakumari district, in April 21, 2013. He suffered injuries on his shoulder, stomach and legs in the attack.
The gang members, including Mohammed Salin, were arrested in connection with the attack and charge sheets were filed at the court in Nagercoil.
Salin, in his petition to transfer the case from the court in Nagercoil submitted that some Hindu outfits had threatened to kill them and wanted to transfer the case to Madurai or any other district.
He submitted that if the trial was held in Nagercoil, witnesses would not come forward to depose. Hence the case should be transferred to Madurai or other districts for a proper trial in the case.
Justice M M Sundresh of the Madurai bench stayed the hearing in the court at Nagercoil and ordered issue of notice to Inspector of the Nesamoni Nagar Police Inspector, who filed the case.
