Heatwave claims six lives in AP's Krishna district

The heat wave has claimed six lives in Krishna district while the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh continued to reel under oppressive heat wave conditions today, district collectorate officials said.
So far, six people have died due to sun strokes in Krishna district from May 20 to May 22, officials said.
As many as three people died of sun stroke today. K Adilakshmi (27) of Mandapakala village of Koduru Mandal, Krishnachari (51) of Thorraguntapadu village of Jaggaiahpet Mandal and Seelam Anasuya (68) of Kankatala village of Guduru Mandal died today, district collectorate officials told PTI.
The first sun stroke death of the season was reported on May 20 at Vatsavai village after K Sreenu (55) died of a sun stroke, officials said.
On May 21, K Mangamma (64) died at Ravirala village of Jaggaiahpet Mandal and T Jayaraju (45) also died due to sun stroke, officials said.
However, the unofficial death toll due to sun stroke has reportedly crossed 17 in the district during the last three days, officials said.
Officials said that Oral Re-Hydration (ORS) sachets are being distributed even at Primary Health Centres as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, the Krishna district faced scorching temperatures for the consecutive third day today, officials said.
At Gannavaram Airport, the mercury touched the highest 47.2 degrees celsius (116.9 Fahrenheit), officials said.
The heatwave continued from morning to midnight, forcing people to remain indoors, officials said.
