The 11-member Buddhist delegation, led by Bhikshu Gyomyo Nakamura, called on the governor at the Raj Bhavan this afternoon.
"I had earlier discussed the issue of cleaning Loktak Lake with the Japanese Ambassador," Heptulla said.
Loktak Lake is the largest freshwater lake in the Northeast and is located in Manipur.
Heptulla also told the visiting team that the Far East Asian country has been close to Manipur since World War II as the state was a battleground then and several Japanese soldiers were killed here.
Nakamura also said Japan wants to improve relationship with the North East region.
