Hero of 1965 Indo-Pak war passes away

Hero of 1965 Indo-Pak war and recipient of Maha Vir Chakra (MVC), Maj Gen Salim Caleb (Retired), has died here.
He was admitted to Military Hospital, Jutogh near here few days back and breathed his last yesterday evening, Army sources said.
Maj Gen Salim Caleb (89), was cremated at Annandale cremation ground here this afternoon.
Large number of serving and retired army officers including Lt Gen B S Sachar, Officiating General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Army Training Command (ARTRAC) attended the funeral and paid homage to the veteran General.
Maj Gen Salim Caleb, then a Lt Col, was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra for extraordinary gallantry during the 1965 War.
As Commanding Officer of 3rd Cavalry in Asal Utar, Khem Karan Sector, he led his regiment to destroy fifteen and capture nine Pakistani Patton tanks.
