: A conference on education, seeking higher budgetary allocation in the sector and opposing its commercialistaion, among other things, will be organised by Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi at Salem on August 17, its leader, Thol Thirumavalavan said today.
As the allocation of just three per cent was very meagre, the conference will urge the Centre to allocate at least 25 per cent for the sector, he told reporters en route to Erode.
The conference would also oppose the prevailing commercialisation of education, he said.
Asked about VCK's relationship with DMK, its long-term ally, he said both parties have a cordial relationship. However cadres and workers wanted to strengthen the party and considering this, a campaign to make the party strong would begin from August 20.
