The Juvenile Justice Board rejected the bail application of a 14-year-old boy today, who was allegedly involved in a 'hit-and-run case' which took three lives, after considering it an "exceptional case".
Juvenile Justice Board Chairperson J M Brahmbhatt turned down the bail plea of the teenager who allegedly drove over nine people sleeping on a footpath in Danilimda area of the city.
Two people were killed on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries during treatment, and four persons including two children sustained injuries.
It was contended in the bail application that the juvenile is a 14-year-old teenager who is studying at present and has not committed any offence in the past.
Public prosecutor V V Parmar opposed the bail application and contended that it is an exceptional case which falls under the category of Section 12 of the Juvenile Justice Act, since it claimed the lives of three people.
"Out of the three deceased, two were sole earning members of their family, while the third deceased was a mother of two children. Considering the facts of the case, the act of the juvenile is unpardonable and he cannot be granted bail," Parmar submitted before the court.
Parmar submitted that the juvenile was aware of the the facts that he had no driving license and did not even know how to drive a car.
Parmar told the court that the juvenile's father was accused in 14 offences at a single police station of the city and the juvenile himself is not in control of parents.
Juvenile Justice Board Chairperson J M Brahmbhatt accepted the public prosecutor's contentions and sent the juvenile to a remand home.
The accident had claimed the lives of Salim Rashidkhan Pathan, Rehana Mustafa Sheikh and Mohammad Yunus Hajimiyaan.
According to the city police officer, the juvenile had allegedly crushed the people to death on July 23 morning and fled the spot, after which he was nabbed by the police.
