Hot, humid conditions prevail in north India

Many parts of north India continued to experience hot and sultry weather as temperatures hovered around 40-degrees level at several places and humidity rose in the atmosphere.
Stifling hot weather prevailed in Delhi days after intermittent rains brought respite from the sweltering heat.
The maximum temperature settled at 43.3 degrees Celsius in the national capital, four notches above normal, while the minimum was 29.2 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal, and humidity rose to over 70 per cent, MeT officials said.
Light to moderate rain occurred at few places in Uttar Pradesh bringing down temperatures in Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Faizabad, Lucknow, Agra, Meerut and Allahabad divisions.

According to the MeT department, 9 cm rainfall was recorded in Lakhimpur Kheri, 7 cm in Nighasan and Sidhauli, 5 cm in Pawayan, Kaiserganj, Tarabganj, 4 cm in Banda, 3 cm in Hamirpur, 2 cm in Baheri, and 1 cm in Churk, Bahraich, Nawabganj, Pilibhit, Puranpur, Mankapur and Dudhi regions.
Highest maximum temperature was 46 degrees Celsius at Etawah, the Met department said.

Churu was the hottest place in Rajasthan with the maximum temperature of 45.3 degrees Celsius as heat wave continued to sweep across the state, a Met report said.
Barring Udaipur, where the mercury recorded 35.8 degrees Celsius, the maximum temperature ranged between 39 and 44.4 degrees Celsius at all places including Ajmer, Pilani, Kota, Chittorgarh, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, and Bikaner.

Hot and humid conditions prevailed in Jaipur which recorded maximum 41.8 deg C, about 2 degrees less than yesterday with humidity at 30-40 per cent.
In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a maximum temperature of 39.8 degrees Celsius, a MeT report said while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded 40.5 and 40 degrees Celsius, respectively.
In Haryana, Hisar sizzled at a high of 43 degrees Celsius. Narnaul, Karnal and Ambala, however, recorded below normal maximum temperatures of 39, 37.8 and 39.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The maximum temperature in Chandigarh also witnessed a slight drop today, settling at 38.5 deg C, one notch below normal.
