Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) Vice Chancellor A D N Bajpai today categorically said that "there is no likelihood of restoration of direct elections to Students Central Associations (SCAs) of HPU and affiliated colleges" and ruled out roll back of fee hike.
Bajpai, who completed five years in office on May 24 last said that elections to SCAs would not be restored as the decision of the University has helped in maintaining academic peace and made it clear that the RUSA, which was implemented in 2014 and the fee hike would not be rolled back.
Addressing mediapersons, Bajpai claimed that achievements of university during past five years had been spectacular but there several grey areas where the achievements had not been as per expectations but "I am satisfied with our efforts, but not with the achievements."
Pointing out towards grey areas, he said the efforts to set up another campus of the University at Ghanahatti near Shimla did not fructify as the forest clearance for the land has not been granted and establishment of setting up Publication department has not made much headway and efforts are afoot to revive the publication of House Journal of the University.
Bajpai said that the University was in touch with Banaras Hindu University, which owns about 17 acres of land near Boileauganj for starting some joint venture like opening some institute.
The ownership of the land would remain with the BHU but the resources would be shared by both the Universities in 50:50 ratio, he informed.
He said that the University proposed to set up an Institute of Mass Communication to broaden the number of courses offered underwide spectrum as orbit of media studies has expanded and new dimensions have been added.
