"Meri Pyaari Bindu" will mark Parineeti Chopra's return to the big screen after a gap of two years but the actress is happy that she finally had the time to work on her fitness.
The actress said she may not have been doing films, but was busy with other work commitments.
"Speculation is bound to happen. Even though I was not shooting for a film, I never went away. I was doing a lot of events, appearances and of course I was working on myself. I released my campaign 'Build That Way' in December last year. I made it very clear that I was reading a lot of scripts and waiting for the right one," Parineeti told PTI in an interview.
The 27-year-old actress is happy that she utilised the gap to focus on getting fit which has been her long standing goal.
"I have aways wanted to be fit for 10-12 years of my life and always thought I will take time out. But I was not finding the motivation or the will power. Then I had some time off and I went for it," she said.
"Meri Pyaari Bindu", an Yash Raj project, was announced by Parineeti with a special video in which she is seen humming the lines 'maana ki humm yaar nahi'.
The love story is being produced by director Maneesh Sharma while Akshay Roy is making his directorial debut with the film.
The "Kill Dil" star says the story of an aspiring singer was perfect to channel her passion for singing with the movie where she will be seen romancing Ayushmann Khurrana.
"I have been singing since I was a child and I am a trained Hindustani classical singer. I always took music very seriously and passionately. It is one of my biggest passions and hobbies.
"I was waiting for the right professional opportunity to be able to sing and that's exactly what happened. Maneesh, Adi (Aditya Chopra) and Akshay thought that since my character is an aspiring singer, it would be a perfect fit. I am so glad that everything worked out and I got to sing."
Parineeti said the project came her way about a month ago.
