In a throwback to the 80s Kolkata, Shoojit Sircar's children's flick 'Open Tee Bioscope' again mirrors the para-politics of the times.
"You can identify the situations and the characters and the power players in a neighbourhood who would decide matters from para tournament to picnic spots. I play one such veteran political satrap" Iti Mrinalini actor Kaushik Sen, a formidable actor and Bengali playwright, told PTI here.
"I had come across such characters during those 80s and 90s Kolkata when one party was in the helm. Since the film deals with children and para football in those derby craziness days, any other reference may be incidental," the 'Swapnasandhani' founder said about fellow artiste, musician-actor-composer-journalist Anindyo Chatterjee directed film.
"But yes it is there, you can't depict a situation in a film with the 80s and 90s Uttar Kolkata as the backdrop not having references to the erstwhile local leaders and how they were embedded with the para activities. It was easier said than done for me to bring to life such a character any way," Kaushik said.
About casting his song Riddhi as the leader of the on-screen Chillar Party of Baghbazar in Open Tee Bioscope, Kaushik said, "I relive my days as the children were giving shoots like Shoojit. It was the time when hitting the turf seemed the all important thing in life when they gave shots.
Madras Cafe director Shoojit Sircar said having been in the formative stage since the making of 'Aparajita Tumi', 'Open Tee Bioscope' was refreshingly Bengalee in spirit and feel.
