The apex grouping for company secretaries, ICSI, has elected R Sridharan as its new president and Vikas Y Khare as its vice-president.
Sridharan replaces S N Ananthasubramanian with immediate effect. He was elected uncontested as president of the ICSI with effect from February 7, according to a statement today.
A commerce graduate and fellow member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), Sridharan started his career with Best & Crompton, where he served for 14 years. He moved to the Murugappa Group and was secretary of TI Diamond Chain, heading their secretarial division.
Subsequently, he set up his own practice and since then has been an adviser to companies in Chennai.
Khare has 31 years of professional experience, with expertise in excise, service tax and customs laws.
ICSI was expected to choose a new president during a meeting on January 19. Since a decision could not be reached that day, incumbent Ananthasubramanian was asked to continue till the election of the new president.
ICSI is a national professional body set up to develop and regulate the profession of company secretaries. It has over 35,000 members and over 4 lakh students on its rolls.
The affairs of ICSI are managed by a council consisting of 15 elected members and five nominees of the central government.
