The matter relates to the violence in the university on September 27, in which the Vice-Chancellor was illegally detained in her chamber, allegedly by some staff, students and outsiders, from 4 p.m. to 2.30 a.m.
Hearing a petition by a student, Justice N Kirubakaran made it clear that the private security appointed by the VC should get instructions from police and act as per the order of the police officer on special duty posted there.
Counsel for the Puducherry government submitted that the primary responsibility for the incidents lay with the Union HRD Ministry, which had not appointed a Vice Chancellor for the past two years.
The judge who raised several questions after perusing the status report, wanted to know how many FIRs were filed and how many people were arrested in connection with the incident.
He also directed that if anyone not connected with the university attempted to enter the campus, they can be blocked and even arrested.
